benefits

When you think of massage you immediately think of rest, relaxation and stress relief, which it obviously gives. These days, with the amount of stress we have at work, and the resulting increase in blood pressure, anxiety and chronic pain, the need for a bit of stress relief has never been greater.

If you are one of those who tend to do high mileage workouts each week running, cycling, swimming, weight training or triathlon training, then you could also benefit from a massage.

A professional massage helps loosen tight muscle groups allowing them to move freely again while at the same time promoting enhanced movement and flexibility. Massage also relieves muscle fatigue thus preventing future injuries.

Massage works by improving circulation of blood under the skin to targeted muscle groups. This blood will be carrying essential nutrients that will help heal and build weak, growing and damaged areas.

Lying still for an hour will give you plenty of time to break away from the daily grind helping your mind unwind. As your body is held up through a muscular supportive structure, ensuring this structure is at its most relaxed will enable you to think, act and work better.

Suzanne, the Get Personal massage therapist, has her own portable massage table. She visits individuals at their homes and also massages from her home in the North Sydney area, using her extensive range of carefully homemade massage blends.

stress relief

Are you feeling stressed from work? Are your kids and family getting to you? Have you got a constant neck/head ache?

Your head is supported by several muscle groups and is often held out of alignment as you work behind your desk looking up at your computer. This then tightens your neck muscles and filters a feeling of stress through them.

The main muscles around the neck/head area are the sternocleidomastoid and the levator scapula. These main muscle groups help the head sit upright. You could test the tightness of these muscles by giving a simple stretch to the side of your head. If you feel a tight stretch then it’s a good chance you have a lot of stress running through this area.

Building up stress in this area can cause the body to retain sustained neck discomfort and headaches. A massage can reduce the tension in these muscle groups by isolating their exact insertion and origin points (ie where muscles attach to bones), by using different types of rubbing and massaging skills. The result will see a a reduction in muscle tension as well as the removal of body toxins.

relaxation

Lie down, switch off and float away. Massage, while it can deliver all types of benefits, ultimately leaves you feeling relaxed. This feeling of relaxation and overall sense of well being is aided by various devices such as the use of carefully homemade massage blends and your choice of background music.

All massage blends used by Suzanne have a distinct healing power through their own individual smells - lavender for total relaxation, lemon for healing of muscle injuries. Sufferers of any oil allergies won’t need to worry as Suzanne can make up a neutral blend to suit your needs.
