fitter you
My top tips for fitness might not be what you think.
In articles and other magazines people are always looking for the
NEW and FASTER way of achieving results, when really the answer
is just in front of you. It is all about change. If you are serious
about results then embrace change in your life. There is no magical
way of achieving your results - it just takes hard work and dedication,
based on three simple factors: consistency, variety and intensity.
The application of these three elements
form the cornerstone of John's approach to his clients' physical
improvement.
consistency
This is the big one. If you are consistent in anything you will
be a success. If you decide that you are to limit the total amount
of fats in your diet and are consistent with that you will get
results. If you say you'll get up every morning at 6am and walk
around the block for an hour and you are consistent, you will
get results: lower blood pressure, increased fitness levels,
along with loads of other benefits. It is hard to be consistent
however, and that is how a personal trainer can help. Your personal
trainer's constant encouragement and motivation will assist you
in being consistent and achieving your results faster.
variety
You will get used to what you are doing very quickly. So if you
keep doing the same old routine your body will get very used
to it and you will find results hard to come by. For example,
if you run a 5km route around your home and do the same route
all the time you will get very fit towards that route. Meaning
you will find the hills easy as you do them all the time. If
you mix that route up with other routes varying the hills, the
distance and even the terrain (i.e. sand, footpath) you will
find your results are achieved faster as you are always keeping
your body on its toes.
intensity
It is like the old saying, "no pain, no gain" or "you
get out what you put in". Not literally going through pain
but unless you are prepared to put lots of effort in and work hard,
you won't receive the benefits. Things usually come to people who
work for them. You can't cheat yourself.
Evidence of not working
hard enough will be seen by a lack of progress. Intensity is
the key. The harder you work the more calories you will burn, the
greater amount of oxygen you will uptake, and the more muscle you
will build. A personal trainer can help with increasing the intensity
by giving you constant motivation and assistance. Sometimes increasing
the intensity is much easier than you might think. It could just
involve walking a longer route, a bigger hill or lifting a heavier
weight.
